A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT DICK VANDERLAAN FOLLOWS

June Update - from Dick Vanderlaan, President VPHA

You were made aware in May that we have two meetings scheduled.  The first on June 14th, 2011 at 3:00 PM (in the County Commissioners Board Room, Highlands County Government Center Building, 600 South Commerce Ave., Sebring, Florida) with the Planning and Zoning Commission to approve the zoning and variance requests we are presenting.  Recommendations by the Planning and Zoning Commission will be submited to the Board of County Commissioners for final action, (at our second meeting) a public hearing on July 19, 2011.

We encourage all residents still here in Sebring to attend these meetings to show their support or otherwise for the project.  The more people there, the better we can present our case.

For those of you who are not here, the offical Notice of Public Hearing notifying you, was sent out by the Planning and Zoning Commission dated May 25, 2011 offering you options to respond:  by submitting comments to the attention of Linda Conrad, zoning Supervisor, P.O. Box 1926, Sebring, FL 33871-1926 or calling (863) 402-6638.

We would like to offer additional options.  Send an e-mail to me at laanadvd@strato.net indicating your support or otherwise or if you do not e-mail send a note addressed to the Association mail box at 1325 Pointe Ease, Sebring, FL 33872.  You have until June 13. 2011 to get them to me and the more we receive the better it reflects our presence at the meeting.

Approval at these meetings will complete Part A of Step 2.  Part B will involve receiving bids from various contractors in the area to determine the best possible bid for our money,  Part C will be to arrange for the best possible financing to complete the project.  When all of this information has been accumulated, we will be ready to proceed to Step 3 which involves notification to every homeowner of all the facts that are within our guidelines and to proceed with the project.

We will continue to update you on the first of each month, or sooner if necessary.  Please understand, as you read your Public Hearing letter, that we do not set the dates, times or filing schedules of these occurrences.  These are under complete control of the Highlands County Planning Department.  If you have issues, it should be with them.

DICK VANDERLAAN, PRESIDENT V.P.H.A.

I reported last month that the former Sweety-Pyes restaurant had reopened as the HOT ROD GRILL.

I now must report that a fire broke out last Thursday night causing extensive damage to the restaurant.  The neighboring AT&T store sustained minor smoke damage.  AT&T has reopened but the HOT ROD GRILL is still closed.

Aurelia's Italian American Restaurant has opened at 2310 US27 N., across from ABC Fine Wine and Spirits.  The hours of operation are 11 am to 8 pm Wednesday through Monday.  Lunch and dinner are offered.

The Roadhouse Grill, located in front of the Lakeshore Mall has become a bank-owned property.  If interested, you can pick it up for $1.5 million from the Heartland National Bank.

Forty of our friends and neighbors came to our Memorial Day picnic and gathered around the flag to remember our veterans.  Jim Davis led us in prayer and a moment of silence was observed during the playing of taps.  Following the ceremony a great lunch was enjoyed by all.  Pictures can be viewed on the Vantage Pointe Web site www.vantagepointfl.com

My Wish For You - Author:  Unknown

I wish for you
Comfort on difficult days,
Smiles when sadness intrudes,
Rainbows to follow the clouds,

Laughter to kiss your lips,
Sunsets to warm your heart,
Gentle hugs when spirits sag,

Friendship to brighten your being,
Beauty for your eyes to see,
Confidence for when you doubt,

Faith so you can believe,
Courage to know yourself,
Patience to accept the truth,
And "LOVE" to complete your life.

THAT'S ALL FOR NOW, LET'S ALL REMEMBER TO BE KIND TO EACH OTHER!
