Late breaking story from ESPN Sportscenter

Pete Carroll, former head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, is reported to be very near signing on as a Special Consultant to the Christian Coalition of America.

Pat Robertson looks to recruit Carroll to be a spokesman for the CCA because he is the first man in history who made 100 million people jump up and yell "Jesus Christ!" at the same time.

More information will be reported as this story is followed.

A LITTLE VANTAGE POINTE HISTORY

Many of our newer residents are not aware that our existing clubhouse was doubled in size in 2012... This was in the planning stage for over six years... It was recognized that with the growth that was taking place, there was no way the clubhouse would be able to handle the residents of 200 homes... However this was during the building boom times and estimates were being given of over $450,000 to do this... It was put on hold for several years... Many residents objected to expanding... Events were limited to about 70 participants at the clubhouse... It was through the efforts of then HOA President Dick Vanderlaan and his Board that it was accomplished after the building boom had slowed and the county's impact fees had been temporarily suspended... Not only was the clubhouse expanded to be able to handle our present needs but it was done at no increase to our HOA monthly dues... Our dues have not been increased since the year 2004 and I am sure we are all aware of the drastic increase of the cost of living since then... If you are not, I suggest you go grocery shopping... This is largely due to the prudent management by our Board members over the years...

During the summer of 2012, Don Dewey took pictures daily of the progress of the contractors... Below are but a few of the hundreds of pictures that Don took... Charlie Hallerbach had made up two scrapbooks using Don's pictures... One book was then presented to Dick for all of his (and Alice) time and work in seeing that this was done... Unfortunately the second book which was supposed to be left in the clubhouse for all to see has turned up missing... If anyone knows where the book is, it would certainly be appreciated by all if it would be returned to the clubhouse in the Card Room with the other Picture Albums...

There was much work performed by our many Volunteer residents who are always willing to jump in and help out on any projects... It was necessary to empty the clubhouse of an unbelievable amount of furniture, trappings and in some cases just plain junk... They removed these items and stored them in our generous residents garages thru the summer while the construction took place and they had returned up North... It was then necessary to return the items back to the clubhouse after it's completion... It is because of our many volunteers, affectionately dubbed, "The Motley Crew" that helps to maintain our our low HOA dues...

When the new swimming pool was built, the old pool had it's sides caved in and back filled... When the clubhouse was expanded over that area, the county required that it be dug up and then filled in properly with dirt...

THE VP FLOOD OF 1998

Most of you are not aware that in 1998, VP rec'd 36" of rain over a three month period with heavy rain during the last couple of days that caused the flood... As a result, the pond overflowed due to bad design and severe flooding resulted...
After collecting pictures and having conversations with Leroy Armstrong, Dick Vanderlaan and Bud Lemke, I am able to present a brief write-up of what happened...
Even 17 years ago, our Motley Crew was active in going forth and volunteering for the good of the VP community... In this case they performed hard, back breaking labor...

It was apparent that things had to be redone but if they waited for the County, State, or Federal Gov't to take action, it might take years to get started and who knows how many floods they might face in the meantime... Our VP residents decided to take the matter in their own hands and add additional pipes and a lift station to properly direct the runoff and also build up the brim on the pond...

This was basically a band-aid fix until the correct measure could be done by the county...
The end result, sometime later was to route the runoff to RT 27 at a cost of $350,000...
This was funded by the three previously mentioned arms of our government...

I have given you here but a snapshot of what transpired... For more complete info, if you are interested, please read the below newspaper article provided by Dick V...

There were nine homes that incurred severe and costly damage and sixteen were partially flooded!!! The estimated damage to the homes was $168,373... You have to realize that these residents, the same as most of us here today, did not have flood insurance...

You may be able to recognize some of our Motley Crew Workers, although most of them have their backs to us in the pictures!!!

OUR MOTLEY CREW ...

Our Motley Crew consists of our VP volunteers that step forward whenever there is some work to be done here in VP... It isn't always the same people, but there is a willing number that helps keep our costs down and is one of the main reasons that there has not been a dues increase since 2004...
