Quilts of Valor Foundation
Hello, my name is Kimberly Benton and I am a volunteer with the Quilts of Valor Foundation.
The mission of this foundation is to cover service members and veterans with comforting and
healing quilts of valor. Since November 2003, more than 120,000 quilts have been awarded to
military personnel and veterans. All of our members are volunteers who donate their time and
talents as well as materials.
Our recipient awarded today is HUGO LEMKE. (BUD) He joined the Navy at age 17, and served in the
Pacific theater as a seaman on an LSCL #73 in China and Japan. After his World War 2 tour, he
joined the Detroit Police Department and retired from there after 25 years. He lived in the
Detroit area and northern Michigan before retiring to FL. He is also a 32nd degree Mason
Shriner. Through the years after retiring from the police department, he had a variety of jobs,
selling real estate, advertising, driving a school bus, and managing a Wendy’s . Mr. and Mrs.
Lemke have also traveled through the 48 contiguous states.
On behalf of the Quilts of Valor Foundation, I am proud to present this quilt of valor to Mr.Lemke for his sacrifice to the protection and defense of the United States. Hugo, we hope this
quilt will provide you with warmth and comfort and know that every seam sewn was with prideand gratitude.
And so, on behalf of the Quilt of Valor Foundation, and a grateful nation, with our deepestappreciation, we thank you for your service to our country with this award.
THIS AWARD WAS PRESENTED TO BUD AT HIS HOME IN THE PRESENCE OF SOME OF HIS CLOSE FRIENDS HERE IN VP!!!

THE CONTRACTOR CAME OUT TODAY (1/22) WITH ALL OF HIS HEAVY EQUIPMENT TO INSPECT AND REPAIR THE "POTHOLE" ON THE cIRCLE, PRIOR TO THE cOUNTY ACCEPTING IT AS A COUNTY RD... tHEY FOUND NO PROBLEMS WITH THE SEWER LINE AND THE COUNTY WILL BE ACCEPTING THAT SECTION OF THE CIRCLE THAT HAS NOT BEEN COUNTY PROPERTY. AFTER THIS IS DONE, ALL ROADS IN vp WILL BELONG TO THE COUNTY AND THEY WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR MAINTENANCE. WE CAN THANK OUR VP BOARD VICE PRESIDENT, lEE sEBASTA FOR ALL OF HIS HARD WORK WITH THE COUNTY IN ACCOMPLISHING THIS. IT IS INDEED AN IMPORTANT STEP, AS DOWN THE ROAD (NO PUN INTENDED), THE ROAD WILL SURELY REQUIRE MAINTENANCE AND IT WILL BE THE COUNTY'S PROBLEM, RATHER THAN OUR VP RESIDENTS EXPENSE.
THE REASON THE COUNTY WANTED THIS INSPECTED PRIOR TO THEIR ACCEPTANCE WAS BECAUSE THEY SUSPECTED A POSSIBLE CRACKED OR BROKEN SEWER PIPE THAT HAD WASHED AWAY THE DIRT AND HAD CAUSED THE POTHOLE. aS THE OLD CLICHE GOES, "ALL IS WELL THAT ENDS WELL." FORTUNATELY, WE HAD PLENTY OF HARD WORKING vp VOLUNTEER SUPERVISORS TO ENSURE THAT THE JOB WAS PROPERLY DONE. (SEE PICS) LOL

CONTROL COMMITTEE (ACC)
(more VP volunteers)
The Architectural Control Committee (ACC) was formed, not because they didn't have anything better to do but because they take pride in our VP community.
These Committee members certainly take no joy in being the 'bad guys' in enforcing the rules. In my humble opinion it's the worse job in here to have to inform their friends and neighbors that a correction needs to be made, often quite minor and occasionally major. Don't kill the messenger, they are just doing a service for you and the rest of us in attempting to have our homes maintained in an attractive manner and thereby maintaining our property values.
If you question the need for these rules, I suggest you take a ride in our neighboring communities and ask yourself if you would want to be neighbors to some of these homes. These rules have been in place for over 20 years and because of them and the results of keeping VP an attractive place to live, this is one of the more obvious reasons most of us have moved here.
More VP volunteers!!!!!
